Writer’s Workshop at Conservatory Lab is an interdisciplinary writing technique which can build students’ fluency in writing through continuous, repeated exposure to the process of writing. The Conservatory Lab uses the Writer’s Workshop model in the K2-5th grade classrooms.
Writer’s Workshop invites students to write by making the process a meaningful part of the classroom curriculum. Students write daily through varied entry points, organizing thoughts to create a story, or write about a given topic. Through the writing process, students are taught to develop a voice and focus as they present information to the reader. Students grow to be able to use writing mechanics comfortably and the shift in their cognitive abilities to higher order thinking allows them to develop a more sophisticated sense of what makes good writing.
