The Listening Project

The Listening Project connects musicians of the future to music of the past. Over the course of the year, each classroom studies 30 songs in the canon of a particular genre.

Through active listening, students gain an appreciation for and knowledge of music across ages, genres, and cultures; indentify instruments and vocal parts in musical pieces; identify within musical genres key composers, songwriters, styles, and pieces; define and relate musical terms to musical pieces, such as tempo, beat, rhythm, and forte; and identify structural components of music, such as sonata, notations, and concert.

These Listening Canons include:
Blues and R&B
Broadway / Show Tunes
Classical
Country and Bluegrass
Folk Songs
Jazz
Rock and Pop
