The Listening Project

The Listening Project: Each classroom studies 30 songs in the canon of a genre over the course of the year.

Through active listening, students will gain an appreciation for and knowledge of music across ages, genres, and cultures; will be able to indentify instruments and vocal parts in musical pieces; will be able to  identify and differentiate a variety of musical genres- such as bluegrass, R& B, classical, jazz- in the broader American musical cannon; will be able to identify within musical genres key composers, songwriters, styles, and pieces; define and relate musical terms to musical pieces, such as tempo, beat, rhythm, and forte; be able to identify structural components of music, such as sonata, notations, and concert;  and will learn the art of listening through journaling and repeated listening to individual
pieces.
